How the GRSI supports community sponsorship of refugees
As an international, multistakeholder partnership, the GRSI aims to support community sponsorship by engaging key actors at the local, regional, national, and global level through the following key activity areas:
Policy support & technical assistance
The GRSI provides technical and strategic guidance to civil society and government authorities in designing, scaling and problem-solving in their own community sponsorship programs. We mobilize knowledge through engaging with established expertise in various countries, including government and civil society experts. Through collaboration with our organizational partners, we can respond to requests for support, as well as provide support proactively.
Network building
The GRSI supports the development of a global community sponsorship community, spanning governments, local authorities, civil society organizations and community groups. Through this, we aim to create spaces for stakeholders to exchange knowledge, grow their networks, and build partnerships. We do this by developing dedicated groups for civil society, organizing events, and helping to coordinate the GRSI-supported Community Sponsorship States Network.
Experience & information sharing
Community sponsorship models are diverse and tailored to unique local or national contexts. With the expansion of programs, and growing wealth of experience, we strive to facilitate the sharing of countries’ experiences through knowledge exchanges, bilateral support, as well as the development of public resources.
Championing community sponsorship
Community sponsorship is a collaborative model with several actors contributing to the development and support of the program. Recognizing their essential contributions, we identify relevant stakeholders, including civil society, government authorities and communities, to support their interests in promoting community sponsorship. We do this in a number of ways, including by sharing our global platform to amplify stories and aspirations; providing invitations to participate in relevant workshops, events, or meetings; and by profiling experiences in GRSI communications products.
